KIDS KOREAN FOOD

This picture was taken a few months before Ramadhan. hehe. Sometimes I cook Korean food for the kids and put in a tray, tried to feel how they arranged the food for kids in school.
Here we had:
Rice
Seaweed
Fishcake with sesame seed and carrot
Tofu soup
Fish

The amazing thing happened when serving like this, they could happily finish the food and so excited to see which one they could finish first. Oklah kan, add some variety  of food and the way to serve.

BREAD AND MY LITTLE ASSISTANT

One of the activities for my lil hanaa at home was making bread together. I know that some people already taught their kids to read as early as 3 but I don't do to Hanaa yet. I just did a simple abc reading or recognizing some words from pictures and scribble. Well different people have their own techniques to teach the kids. She is going to turn 3 on May but I always bear in mind that she is still a kid. Eventhough she did not go to playschool/kindergarten at her early age but she could speak very well, including making a complete sentence.Sometimes she may sound a lil bit cartoon dialogue kind of as she got it from tv, but I am really proud of her coz she knows how and when to use it. Wait, did I say tv?yes. Again, some people never introduced tv to their kids which I feel so amazed how they could do that. But for me, I do let them watch with me or without my direct presence but still monitoring the program and the remote. They picked up a lot of English  from tv and new words came from there to. And as a Mom, I would always ask them, what did they say, why did she say, what does it mean etc and make a lot of interaction while watching. And because of that both Daniel and Damia would always ask me the same then from that they learnt. Indirectly Hanaa would only pickup what ever 'summarized' by her brother and sister. Some of the sentence which I could hear from Hanaa at the first time but could shock me enough :-

- Mom, can we do gardening roses?
-Mom, I don't want to go outside, so cold, I want to stay home. (a long one)
- I like Violet color,  like rainbow (she totally picked up violet color from Ipad she really knew how violet looks like)

She also knew to use some grammar (some may have grammatical errors) by a lot of listening and practicing. For examples:-

- I don't like to eat. I'm tired eating!
-Mom, the bus moving. (she said as soon as the bus started to move)
-Mom, nobody watching tv now.
-Abang, mom said no fighting
-Mom, I don't  mad at you, you are my best friend!

Last but not least, a few Malay words that she knew:-
Abang, Kakak, Solat, Wuduk, Kepot (keropok ikan ganu), dokong (now rarely said this).

Anyway, I wanted to show my bread assistant  but somehow dragging to some other story I guess.hehe. well, enjoy our weekly activity, making homemade bread!!

We had a Chinese new year celebration at the embassy, not really celebration but just get together among Malaysians and the most important part was MAKAN.hehe..as usual, I would just bring cake and of course it was a red velvet cake. I accidently made the topping a bit light so I could not make the roses as usual..hehe. but the cake still gone before you knew it. I should have brought two cakes. haha..

RED VELVET, again?

I made this cake for my hubby's group of friends who came over for dinner last winter. Alhamdulillah they liked it and could finish it in no time. Yerla jumpa makanan halal toyyiban. I cook chicken tomyam, sambal belacan, spicy grilled fish, sayur goreng and telur dadar. This cake was so simple but it was rich with cream cheese topping. Ah, I love the texture inside. Just the one that I wanted to see every time I'm making a cake.

APAM BALIK @ SEOUL

A friend of us brought a few cans of sweet corn cream style from Malaysia. So I decided to make Apam balik! It was always my favourite when I was in Malaysia, with extra peanuts.perghhh.. Eventhough the one that I made was not totally the same as we had in Malaysia, but still this was the best for me here. I never made one before, so this was  good enough. Alhamdulillah.

RED VELVET IN WHITE AND PINK FOR A FAREWELL

It was someone's farewell on that day, so I decided to make an RV cake for her and the colleagues as they have been asking for RV for a few times already. But this time, I decided to  make it a lil bit cheerful as it was for a farewell. Eventhough it was just a cream cheese topping, but it did look a bit different in white and pink. I love the combination eventhough it was the simplest one.hehe

DUMPLING

Dumpling! I have never cooked this in Malaysia but I did here! When we were outside, there would be lots of Korean street food that look so tempting especially during the cold days. This is one of the popular but we never bought it. We do not know what's inside and even if they separate found the filling but I am sure they will still using the same steamer or something. Well, anyway so I decided to google and found a very simple recipe of the wrap so I made it! I made it twice, one with ground beef and the second one with the fish cake. It tastes great when served hot!

This was the filling that I made for the second one. Fishcake, green onion, garlic, carrot, black  pepper, white pepper, sugar and salt.

KOREA WAR MUSEUM KID'S ACTIVITY

We went there before during winter, end of 2013 and it was full of snow. Spent time a while and came back. But this time, we went during summer 2014 it was quite hot and sunny outside so we decided to go inside. We were lucky because they were having kids activity inside. We had to pay KRW16,000 per kids and  KRW8,000 for adult. Since it looked so much fun, so we decided to spent money for the kids.

BIRTHDAY CAKES FOR SCHOOL

Since everyone in their classes brought cakes to school, I did too. Such a small celebration, eating cakes and gave small gifs and that was it! Some students asked me where was the candle? I was just smiling and said opps, no candle! But they were all good at giving support, they sang and ate the cakes. Eventhough only homemade cakes, but they could eat all finish!Alhamdulillah. As long as the kids were happy. Daniel already requested a strawberry cake for his next birthday, I can try but did not promise with him because his birthday is in October, it is hard to find strawberry at that time. But, we'll see.

Damia was born on 09/09/09 @1145 pm, amazing date huh? Normal delivery  at only Klinik Desa. (sounds familiar of this klinik?haha) It was 19 Ramadhan at that night. A gifted experience.

Daniel was born on 13/10/07, 3am @ 1 Syawal. Still managed to pay zakat fitrah ok?hehe. Alhamdulillah. 2 weeks earlier from the due date. Allah always the best planner!

STRAWBERRY AND FRESH CREAM SPONGE CAKE

Sponge cake with fresh cream and strawberries. You will find a lot of these cakes in winter as strawberry is so cheap during winter. I keep making this type of cake as kids love to eat this strawberry on top of the fresh cream and plain sponge cake. I am out vanilla essence right now and it is hard to find halal vanilla essence here so I have to redha until I get a new one or otherwise my cake does not smell vanilla and the taste would be a bit different without it.

HEART SHAPE RED VELVET CAKE

I always love this heart shape Red Velvet cake. I normally choose to do this shape when I want to separate in two different mould. For the same batter, I would get one this heart shape and another one is the rectangle shape. I have never attended any baking class, so this is normally would be the deco that I could make.haha. I love cream cheese topping with this RV cake. As far as I could remember I made this shape of cakes many times especially when we have guests in hour house as part of the dessert after the dinner. You will see more of my RV cakes later ;)

FLASHBACK RAYA 2014, SEOUL

Flashback our Raya in Seoul last year. We sent the same picture for 'SalamPerantau' to different newspapers.haha. It was hard to find our family picture with everyone seemed all ok in the pictures. So this was the best I guess.

These were a day before when we had our final buka puasa in the Embassy. I  made 'kuih ketayap' for the Iftar.

Ammar, Balqis and a few of anak-anak kakzah for the background. ehehe..

During the Hari Raya itself, we had a Raya Celebration at the Ambassador's house. I had to make these two RV cakes as part of the festive food. Not so much picture taken during the day as we both were quite occupied with our three kids.
